Dr. Lisa Raposa (Piano)

BA, MA, DMA (Eastman)

Lisa Raposa has over 20 years of experience teaching students of a variety of ages and levels. She received her pedagogy training as an undergraduate student at the University of New Hampshire and since then has taught piano and related courses at several schools in the American Northeast and Quebec including Berwick Academy (Maine), the Hochstein School of Music and Dance (Rochester, NY), Nazareth College (Rochester, NY), and the Dollard Centre for the Arts (Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC). She thoroughly enjoys the process of helping others set goals and develop their musical gifts at the piano.

Lisa is also active as an adjudicator and performer. She has adjudicated for the OMFA Provincial Competitions, the CCC Music Festival, and written reviews of pedagogical repertoire for the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects (ACNMP). Most notably, she is a member of the Millar Piano Duo with her husband, pianist Gregory Millar. At the onset of the pandemic, the Millar Piano Duo staged three very well-attended living room livestream events on Facebook, the first of which included Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin. They intend to continue their musical performances in the digital sphere in 2020/21.

Lisa Raposa earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music where she was a recipient of an Excellence in Accompanying Award. She received a Master of Music degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of New Hampshire. During her training, she played in solo piano master classes for some of the most significant classical artists of our time including Richard Goode, Theodore Lettvin, Santiago Rodriguez, and Ann Schein. Her principal teachers were Jean Barr, Arlene Kies, Estela Olevsky, and Nelita True. Lisa enjoys running, photography, and languages in her spare time. She lives in Toronto.
