Attendance policy

Billing

Lessons must be paid for in advance, either by term or monthly installments. Payments made by installment must be in the form of post-dated cheques or Visa/MasterCard, as outlined in application form.

Termination of Lessons

If you wish to terminate your lessons with Toronto Music Alliance, we require four-weeksʼ written notice. This is to ensure a smooth transition for scheduling, as well as to try to not disrupt our teachersʼ incomes.

Attendance

A portion of your lesson fee is to reserve your time slot each week. It is almost impossible with a very busy schedule to allot extra time over and above the time slot, or alternative times. Another portion of your tuition covers lesson planning and preparation outside of the core window of the private lesson, as well as the expertise of the teacher. As such:

  • No allowance will be made for lessons missed by students, except by special arrangement in cases of prolonged, serious illness or compassionate reasons.

  • All school-year lessons must be completed by the school-year deadline, which will be given to you each year. This is to ensure a smooth transition into summer lessons.

If Your Teacher Is Away

In the event of the teacher's absence, the lesson is not deducted from the student’s yearly total, and the lesson will be taught later in the year.

ILLNESS AND INDEMNITY

Students who are exhibiting COVID-19-related symptoms will not be able to participate in in-person learning programs, but will be accommodated virtually for the duration of their symptoms. These include:

  • sore throat

  • runny nose

  • sneezing

  • new or worsening cough

  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • temperature equal to or more than 38°C

  • feeling feverish

  • chills

  • fatigue or weakness

  • muscle or body aches

  • new loss of smell or taste

  • headache

  • abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting

  • feeling very unwell

Students who arrive displaying these symptoms may be denied entry for their lesson, with no accommodation available. Teachers will also respect and abide by these symptoms for themselves, and provide alternative instruction should they become symptomatic. Participation in in-person programs includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to MRSA, influenza, and COVID-19. While particular rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist; and, students and parents of minor children/wards knowingly and freely assume such risks, both known and unknown, and assume full responsibility for participation in in-person programs.

Lateness

We cannot make up time due to late arrival.

Examinations and Performances

Students should not apply for examinations, performances or auditions without the prior knowledge and approval of the teacher. This is to ensure both the student is adequately prepared, as well as allowing the teacher adequate preparation to strive for the highest success.

Behaviour

We share our school environment with other people and other activities. Therefore, please treat our environment and those in it with care and respect. Please pick up after yourself, and refrain from excessive noise to give everyone the best music lesson space possible.
